Dr. Green Mom DIY Kitchen Cleaner Recipes

Non-Toxic Do It Yourself (DIY)

Sink Scrub

  • Combine 1/ 2 cup vinegar
  • 1/ 4 cup baking soda
  • 3 – 5 drops of citrus essential oil
  • scrub the sink and rinse well with hot water

Sink Stains

  • Combine 1/ 4 cup baking soda
  • 1/ 4 cup borax
  • 5 – 8 drops of essential oil
  • sprinkle the mixture over the sink stains
  • scrub with a wet rag to cover the stains completely
  • allow mixture to sit on stained area for 5 minutes, scrub again and rinse

Rust Stains

  • combine 1/ 2 cup baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 5 drops of essential oil
  • Mix everything together, let it sit on the rust stains for a few hours-overnight
  •  use a rag to scrub, rinse several times
  • If the rust stains are on the side of the sink, try making a thicker paste by using extra baking soda. You can make the paste thick enough so that it will stick to the side of the sink.

Disposal Cleaner

  • Run hot water in the sink for 2 minutes
  • turn off the water, then pour 1 cup baking soda into the disposal
  • pour in white vinegar, enough to make the baking soda start to bubble up and fill the disposal
  • after the mixture stops bubbling, add lemon peel, turn on the hot water, and start the disposal

Stove Top Cleaner

  • 1/ 2 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 5 drops citrus essential oil
  • Sprinkle the baking soda on the stove top, and drizzle a mixture of the vinegar and essential oils directly onto the baking soda.
  • The combo will start to bubble and foam a little bit (remember homemade volcanos as a kid)
  • allow it to bubble before wiping the area with a rag

Oven Cleaner

  • Combine 1/ 4 cup borax
  • 16 ounces of baking soda (1 box)
  • 1/ 2 cup salt
  • Mix the ingredients together, and add a small amount of water… just enough to make a paste.
  • Heat the oven to 250 degrees, then turn off the over and spread the paste on the oven. Be careful, don’t burn yourself!
  • Let the paste sit for 30 minutes
  • In a spray bottle, mix together 3/ 4 cup vinegar and 20 drops of citrus essential oil
  • Spray the oven with the vinegar and essential oils, then use a wet rag to wipe everything down and remove the residue
