Recipe: Emergency Goat Milk Baby Formula
Right now many families in America are without baby formula. Although breastmilk and commercial formula are ideal, fed is best, so I’m providing you with a homemade baby formula recipe to help make it through the shortage. Consult a physician before using this formula and get individualized advice for use longer than 4-6 weeks.
Emergency Goat Milk Baby Formula Recipe
5 oz very hot water
2-3 oz cold water
1 tbsp powdered goat milk
1 tsp organic coconut oil
1 tsp organic olive oil
2 ½ tsp lactose or organic, raw, turbinado sugar
⅛ tsp blackstrap molasses
Add 5 oz of very hot water (120 F) to a bottle. Add coconut oil and wait for it to melt. Add olive oil, molasses, lactose/sugar. Shake well to mix. Add milk powder then fill the bottle with cold water until the total volume is 8 oz. Shake well.
Mt. Capra is a good source of goat milk powder and lactose (lactose is a type of sugar found in milk). If Mt. Capra isn’t available or accessible to you, use whatever goat milk powder is locally available and raw turbinado sugar if you can’t find lactose. Some moms have asked if they can omit the sugar, but babies absolutely need the energy that simple sugars provide. Please don’t omit any ingredients.
This formula is supplemented with Dr. Green Mom products to provide important nutrients like essential fatty acids, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. If you can’t access Dr. Green Mom supplements, choose similar products (multivitamin, DHA, and probiotic formulas) which were formulated with infants in mind.
One time daily, add the following to a bottle:
½ – 1 scoop infant essential immune support
½ scoop infant probiotic
½ -1 tsp DHA 900
